I first saw the Tableau software at the Sydney GovHack event at the end of May. Now I am getting some hands-on experience in creating dashboards using the Tableau Desktop and Tableau Online applications. Visual tools make it easy to present web analytics reports in easy-to-understand formats. Even better, one can send a collection of analytics data and related dashboards with graphs and a link to the online site. The recipient can then look at the site and decide to select different layouts to present the metrics.

If we are analysing data from public sources, we can publish selected datasets and present them through the Tableau Public service free of charge. The Gallery has a number of interesting visual presentations or viz, for example:

Google Analytics is constantly developing, and AT Internet's Xiti has many useful features.  It will be an interesting comparison.
